Cobia is an inshore favorite for many Florida fishermen. This species is generally caught through the spring, but here in Florida cobia can pop up almost anytime.

Physical Characteristics

Cobia have an extended lower jaw with a rather flat head. It is brownish in color with a much lighter belly. There is a length-wise darker brown stripe separating these two contrasts on each side. The dorsal fin starts as a common peaked shape but then extends down a majority of the rest of the back with a shorter profile.
